northern peru

moto-taxis are all the rage in small town Peru

We saw hundreds of these old Plymouth cars in northern Peru. Gas here is nearly $4 a gallon...expensive compared to the $1.50 a gallon in Ecuador

if you look closely you can see the glacier near the mountain top

banos, ecuador

The town of Banos, an hour south of Quito is a popular tourist town for ecuadorans who come to
bathe in the hot water cascades. When we arrived the entire town was celebrating dia de los muertos (memorial day). The outdoor catacombs were decorated with flowers and small gifts.

The first snow-capped mountain of the trip! Cotopaxi

quito is my favorite large city so far. we visited the gothic basilica del voto nacional in the old town. for $2 you could climb steep stairs to the top of the tower. scary but the views were amazing.
